1. Who can apply for the programme?

Anyone, regardless of nationality, who fulfils the admission requirements.

2. I am taking the last courses in my bachelor, can I apply to the programme?

You can apply while finishing the last requirements of your diploma. You will be “conditionally accepted” under the requirement that you have your diploma ready at the registration day. Unfortunately, we are not able register students with some exam left in September.

There are some documents that you need to provide in your application if you have not finished your studies yet: 1) documentation of your studies confirming that you have fulfilled at least 75% of your degree requirements, 2) a document confirming registration and what you are studying in your last semester plus 3) a certificate from the issuing University (signed by Director of studies or equivalent) that you are likely to fulfil the requirements for the final degree before the end of August.

3. Do I need to write a motivation letter and provide letters of recommendation?

The motivation letter or statement of purpose is not compulsory but it is very useful for us if you need to provide us with some more information like the courses that you took to cover the entry requirements. We would also want to know a little more about your achievements.

We do not require letters of recommendation.

4. What is the English level required to enter the master?

The language proficiency is controlled by the national Swedish Council for Higher Education, not by us, so we cannot make any exception. The minimum grade for the IELTS Academic is an overall mark of 6.5 and no section below 5.5.

If you have studied your bachelor in English you may be automatically qualified, but notice that not all Universities qualify, so please check the specific of your country:

5. Can I attend a pre-language school for several months before the course if I do not have sufficient knowledge in English?

No, you must have sufficient knowledge in English at the time of application.

6. Must students learn Swedish to be able to meet the requirements of this programme?

No. All courses are given in English. A basic level course in Swedish is offered by the University to all newcomers interested in learning Swedish. The course is free of charge and runs as an evening course in order not to interfere with the programme courses.

7. Are there any strictly mandatory courses in the programme?

Except for the thesis and Thematic Studies in Renewable Electricity Production, no course is strictly mandatory. However, for most students the standard track is strongly recommended. Without the first semester courses, it is very difficult to follow some of the courses offered later in the programme. You can find the list of our recommended courses here: https://www.uu.se/en/admissions/master/selma/studieplan/?planId=1443&pKod=TFE2M

8. What if I fail an exam?

You will be offered two opportunities for re-examination each year. Your grade is not affected by the examination period that you choose to pass your exams. You can get the higher grade on re-exams.

9. Does Uppsala University offer scholarships to international students?

The information for all scholarships available at Uppsala University are summarized here: https://www.uu.se/en/admissions/scholarships/prospective-students/.

10. Can students take part-time jobs?

In principle, students are free to take a job while in Sweden (without the need for a specific work permit) as long as their student residence permit or visa is valid. However, it may not be an easy task to find a job, and you should not plan on significant additional income from work to finance your studies in Sweden.

11. Can students benefit from Swedish health insurance?

As a master student, you have a health insurance through Uppsala University. You will be part of the Swedish health care system and be able to receive care very cheaply as soon as you get a Swedish civic registration number (which you will be able to get very soon after your arrival). You are also entitled to heath care in Sweden if you have an EHIC-card (European health insurance card). Dental care is usually not included.

12. Is accommodation provided?

Uppsala University guarantees housing to non-European students, that is, tuition fee paying students. The accommodation is not included in the tuition fee and it is for only one person. Unfortunately we cannot offer accommodation to families. EU and Swedish students will need to find their own accommodation.

13. Do I fulfil the entry requirements?

We cannot give you a preliminary decision, but here are some tips that may help you in the process for the Master Programme in Renewable Electricity Production. We have prepared the following complementary Summary sheet (392 kB)Docreader for you to fill in all courses that in your view cover the entry requirements. Submission of this summary sheet is certainly not compulsory but it will facilitate the assessment of your entry requirements substantially. Please, use it as a check list and attach it to your application.
