Wave power
One of the largest challenges of today's society is how to guarantee the energy demand in the future in a safe and sustainable way. Ocean waves have potential to contribute significantly to the global electricity production.
Uppsala University is at the forefront of wave energy research and has the largest group in the area. The research site at Lysekil on the west coast of Sweden is one of the few off-shore test sites for full-scale wave energy converters in the world.
The wave energy concept developed at Uppsala University is based on simplicity and reliability. Our research covers the full system, from the hydrodynamics of the waves via the energy conversion in the generator to the grid connection.
The Lysekil project

The Lysekil project is a wave power park on the Swedish west coast where we test different technological solutions and study the environmental impact on the marine environment.
