Body computing for new smart health services

The Division of Solid-State Electronics participates in a new project funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research to develop software to facilitate the study of the human body and the development of new smart health services using portable technology, implanted components and brain-machine interfaces.

The new 5-year project “BOS: Principles and techniques for a body-centered operative systems” aims to develop software to facilitate the study of the human body using portable technology, implanted components and brain-machine interfaces. This so-called body computing combines computer resources close to the source and in the cloud to new smart health services. A potential application is deep brain stimulation for treating movement disorders associated with Parkinson´s disease. This project is a collaboration between the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology departments at Uppsala University (UU), Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. The funder, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF), has published the following message in Swedish acknowledging the project: De fick bidragen i ”Future Software Systems”.
